Where things are
Put SingKey on your home screen
iPhone: open SingKey in Safari, tap Share, then “Add to Home Screen”.
Android: open SingKey in Chrome, tap the ⋮ menu, then “Install app” or “Add to Home screen”.
It then opens from its own icon, like any other app on your phone.
Invite someone
Send a friend SingKey’s address. They can open it and start straight away.
The link is only SingKey’s address. It does not carry your name, and SingKey does not keep track of who invited whom.
Questions
What is a key, in one sentence?
A key is how high or low a song is played. The same song in a different key is the same tune — it just sits higher or lower for the person singing it.
That is the whole idea. If a song feels like a shout at the top or a mumble at the bottom, it is probably in the wrong key for your voice, not too hard for you.
What does SingKey actually do?
You sing for about half a minute. SingKey listens and works out where your voice sits comfortably — not the highest note you can force out, but the range you can sing in every week without hurting.
Then, for any song, it works out which key puts that song inside your comfortable range, and tells you which one to use.
Do I need to know anything about music?
No. You can turn the musical words off entirely in Settings, and SingKey will talk about high and low instead of note names.
Nothing is hidden when you do that. The measurement and the recommendation are exactly the same. Only the labels change.
It says a key I have never played. Is it wrong?
Probably not, but you get the final say. SingKey suggests; you decide. If a key suits your voice but your guitarist cannot play it, pick a different one and SingKey will follow.
Your choice is remembered and used everywhere afterwards.
What does “ready” mean on a set?
It means the person singing that song has practised it, in the key you are actually doing it in, and it sat comfortably.
Practising in one key does not make you ready in another, so if the band changes the key, that song goes back to needing a practice. That is deliberate — it is the thing that goes wrong on a Sunday morning.
Where is my recording kept?
On this device, in this browser, and nowhere else. That stays true no matter what else your account keeps — recordings are never uploaded.
That also means it will not follow you to another phone, and clearing your browser data deletes it.
Can I add my own song?
Yes. You can type or paste in your own words and chords and SingKey will treat it like any other song.
SingKey will not fetch words or chords from other sites for you. Those belong to the people who wrote and published them.
Something looks wrong with my voice measurement.
Check the name at the top of the screen is you. One device can hold several singers, and the numbers look completely normal when they belong to somebody else.
If it is you, sing the check again in a quieter room. SingKey would rather say it did not hear you clearly than guess.
Found a problem?
SingKey cannot send a report from inside the app yet. While SingKey is in its pilot, tell the person who invited you — a screenshot and what you tapped help most.
